This hasn’t exactly been a good year for avalanche fatalities. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has tallied 27 avalanche fatalities so far this year, with the latest being on March 7 when two backcountry skiers were killed in a slide at Ranger Peak in Grand Teton National Park.
So with an increasingly urgent need for avalanche awareness and preparation comes the film Snow Guardians.
And the filmmakers need your help:
“We critically need your help to complete the filming and interviews of people effected by these avalanches, and to edit, grade, buy music rights and to finish post production.
The expanded interest in the backcountry has resulted in a growing number of adventurers seeking enjoyment outside a ski resort. The imperfect science of avalanche study and prediction may be the only thing standing in the way of life and death for a growing number of backcountry adventurers. The film will also be a highly educational yet gripping story to help educate people traveling into the backcountry on the science and skills needed to survive.”
