About the blog

Welcome. I’m glad you’re here. I started this blog of mine a few years back to connect with other creative folks and record a few of my observations on things, for whatever it’s worth.

About me

I like hanging out with my family, writing, traveling, snowboarding, being outside, and eating. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if the food is good, so it’s a real plus when it is.

I’ve called a few places home over the years, but I now live in the great state of Wisconsin. You should visit. If you like canoes and lakes, this is your spot. And yeah, the cheese really is that good.

That’s a picture of me in a hammock (an endless personal pursuit) puffing a cigar (probably the last one I smoked) on the Osa Peninsula.

OK, thanks again for stopping by!

  1. Eric, if you can tell me how I can possibly pack all of that crap in one bag, I will be your blog buddy for life. Between my camera bag (Gorilla bags ROCK!), computer bag, and carry-on bag (which has to hold my computer now that they only allow you to have a single personal item and a carry-on, and the camera bag doesn’t fit in there), I have no room for clothes.

    1. On a philosophical scale from 1 to 10, “how do I pack all that crap into one bag?” is a 9, ranking higher than “why are we here?” and “is there life after death?”

We may never know the answer to one of life’s most complex questions.

  2. Hi Eric,

I love your honesty! We are also an outdoorsy family, thanks to my husband. He started the camping, hiking and backpacking journeys and we gained wonderful memories from those times. Our kids are older now, so camping and backpacking have taken a backseat, however, they won’t be there for long. Anyway, thanks for your visit and for liking “Illusion.” I hope you’ll return and I look forward to hearing more about your adventures, too!
    Lauren

  3. Hey there Eric! Wow, I don’t know what brought you to my blog, but whatever it was…I’m glad because it made me come here to check you out. Ok….wow! You are very interesting! I really enjoy your writing (funny, easy to read and easy to get into!), your philosophy (inspiring!), your attitude (positive, without being sappy and new age-y)…and you have a hammock…which makes me very envious! Hammocks are greatly under-rated. I think I need to write a post on hammocks! AND…you also have a digital shoulder, which I’ll try not to abuse. No promises on that.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Alex! Your blog is pretty awesome, too! I think the world would be a much better place if everyone had a hammock.

  4. Eric, thanks for following my blog. My aim is to educate as many people as possible about how to overcome their own obstacles as I have, travel outside their comfort zone, and travel the world!!! Looking forward to sharing our own stories and reading more about yours! Keep on keeping on!

    1. This sounds like something straight out of the Tao Te Ching. Wise advice, Lily.

Pack but one bag. Pity the fool with two.

  5. hey Eric,

Thanks for visiting my adventure art blog. I think your adventure travel blog is one of the most interesting I’ve seen so far. You hit it on the head, it’s the journey not the destination, well at least in our lives it is. Newly married, my wife and 13 month old son have not let our status keep us home. I noticed you like backpacking and was wondering if the “Leader of the Pack” design would interest your sort on a t-shirt. We were afraid the art may be too childish, but we’ve been getting good feedback and I do art that I would want on a outdoorsy t-shirt so it’s natural others would want it too. I’m going to follow your blog as well. Thanks. – Carolina Mike

  6. Thanks for the follow Eric. I’ve returned the favor; not because I feel obligated, but because your blog rocks! I’ll be snooping around. I like what I see so far!

  7. I got a glimpse of your homepage and I must say I turned out small in size. I mean, the adventures I thought as “adventures” were redefined by yours. For that reason, those travel/adventure stories turned pale and small. Suffice to say, I envy you BIG time! Anyway, I’d be content to see a higher level of adventures through your blog — for now. And, for that, thank you!

  8. Eric – I nominate you for the Versatile Blogger Award. Here are the rule for the Versatile Blogger Award:

-Thank the award-giver and link back to them in your post
    -Share 7 things about yourself
-Pass this award along to 15 recently discovered blogs you enjoy reading
-Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know about the award

  9. Hey there Eric! Guess what…tag, you’re IT!

I’ve nominated you for Liebster Blog Award. Whether you are interested in such awards DOES NOT MATTER! At the very least I hope you will check out my post mentioning you and your kick-ass site.

  10. Hi Eric! Thanks for visiting my blog and liking “The Magic of Millie.” I agree, the journey is what’s most important. Unfortunately it took me a long time to understand this truth. Thankfully, it’s never too late to change. For the first time in my life the “being” part of my journey is so much more important than the “doing.” Some great inspiration in your blog. Enjoy your adventures! Be well …

  11. Hi Eric,

You have a wonderful blog here. Awesome! I enjoy what I’ve been reading so far. Great job!

And after I took the adventure of visiting your blog, I hope you’re willing to take the adventure to visit mine! šŸ™‚

Thank you and have a great day! šŸ™‚

    Subhan Zein

  12. Well well well old friend, I’m psyched to see you’re living up to all those late night porch talks and achieving what appears to be a genuine, and interesting life.
